How Do HVLS Fans Cool?
In summer, HVLS fans for industrial buildings, distribution centers, gyms, etc. use a unique operating principle.
HVLS fans get increasingly popular as a cost-effective cooling solution for industrial buildings, warehouses, shopping malls, gyms or airport buildings. Often the question arises how such large premises can be cooled efficiently and environmentally friendly…
The short answer: evaporative cooling! This cooling effect brings numerous advantages and ensures a pleasant working climate.
In summer, if you compare the air temperatures of a building with HVLS fans and one without, you won’t notice any difference. And yet, you and your employees and customers will notice a number of “cool” improvements (ambient temperature). Here are some of the benefits HVLS fans bring:
- Improved productivity thanks to cooling effect: It has been proven that employees who feel comfortable work much more motivated and productive.
- Cost savings: HVLS fans move a lot of air without using a lot of electricity. This saves considerable money compared to air conditioning.
- CO₂ savings: HVLS fans emit tremendously less CO₂ compared to other air conditioning systems.
So What Is the Function of HVLS Fans?
The exciting thing about HVLS fans is that they do not change anything in the air temperature during the summer months, but they improve the sensation temperature of the people present (ambient temperature).
HVLS fans work primarily by creating a “breeze” that results in an evaporative cooling effect. This “breeze” is created by the HVLS (High Volume Low Speed) fans, as the name implies, moving large amounts of air at low rotational speeds. As the air passes over a person’s skin, it evaporates small amounts of moisture that naturally reside on the skin. As the moisture changes from liquid to gaseous form, the resulting phase change removes heat and the person feels a cooling effect. In fact, the room can feel up to 6 degrees cooler without having to cool down the actual air temperature.
